Arnott’s uses biodegradable cellophane for the packaging and cellulose based and plastic materials which are recyclable when they’re needed. Plastic however isn’t biodegradable therefore Arnott’s uses it at the minimum. However Arnott’s is supporting the research into plastic, made with a special corn starch ingredient, which breaks down between 6-24 months. As soon as the product is developed more, Arnott’s will begin to use it for their products.
Arnott’s strives towards limiting water emissions. They work closely with the water authorities such as Sydney water to reduce water consumption and waste. They also have a $390,000 waste-water treatment plant. They reduce energy consumption, minimise the use of package materials, use recyclable materials and consumer packaging waste are managed and minimised.
Arnott’s are trying to farm with organic fertilisers however they give off a smell and they don’t mix with the urban boundaries. However Arnott’s is looking at new ways to farm organically.
